Daniel Ramm and Frank Greiner were born in former East Germany in late 70's. Ever since they consciously listened to music, their main pleasure has been to explore changing musical trends. Emotion has been the transmitter of their cooperation. In the Brandenburg musical scene, however, they were pretty isolated with this attitude.
During their youthful escapades of the 90s their ways kept crossing. Frank Greiner has started spinning records his spare time since 1993. At his first parties he discovered his passion for electronic club music and other musical extravaganzas. In 1995 he played his first DJ set in a Club in Frankfurt/ Oder where he met Daniel. Daniel was so intrigued by his sophisticated mix of dub, trip hop, rock and jazz, that after a thrilling conversation they immediately became friends.
Daniel is obsessed by programming music since 1993. Based on his knowledge of his Amiga 500 he achieved first experiences with music programming - from fast melodic trance to a sudden inspiration by slower house music. Based upon a simple set-up consisting of Amiga computer, sampler and synth he later he did several live sets in the region of Brandenburg. His training as electronic communication engineer reinforced his interest for sound production.
In 1999 Daniel and Frank moved to Berlin independently. Their love for electronic music, however, brought them together again. Pikaya is the result of the musical journey of the two young men, who have clipped their heads and machines together since 2000. On the way they constantly grabbled with their respective ideas, but still managed to arrange them.
Actually Frank and Daniel are playing the Pikaya live-set all over in Europe. Their concerts have been excellently well received in different clubs in Italy, France, Spain and Switzerland, though only a few tracks have been released on records so far.
The feedback from concerts is a big source of inspiration for their studio work. Their latest record on Cadenza Records has been finalized in summer 2007 (Kambrium EP - Cadenza 17), including Jedi and Fango, two tracks that have been played live on their concerts before editing and remixing in the studio. |
